The governing committee of the Biotechnology Program is the Biotechnology Advisory Committee (BAC). Each member is involved in an area of research utilizing modern biotechnologies. The research activities of the members of the BAC reflect the diversity of interests and expertise across the university.

Titus Brown – Associate Professor, Department of Population Health and Reproduction, School of Veterinary Medicine and faculty in the Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute, and Genome Center. His research interests include -omic data analysis, gene expression, and gene regulatory networks and specialties/focus areas include cellular physiology, domestic animal physiology and molecular physiology.

Joanna Chiu – Associate Professor, Entomology and Nematology, and Genome Center faculty member. Prof. Chiu's research interests include molecular genetics of animal behavior and physiology, circadian rhythms, posttranslational modifications of clock proteins and protein network analysis.

Marc Facciotti – Professor, Biomedical Engineering and Genome Center faculty member. His research interests include systems biology, synthetic biology, structure, dynamics and function of gene regulatory networks, and protein engineering.

Annaliese Franz – Professor, Chemistry and Faculty Director, Undergraduate Research Center. The Franz lab focuses on organic synthesis, catalyst development, and chemical biology with applications for the synthesis of bioactive products, biofuels and materials.

Bruce Hammock (Former Chair) – Distinguished Professor, Entomology and Nematology and the Comprehensive Cancer Center, and member of the National Academy of Science. He leads the Hammock Laboratory of Pesticide Biotechnology, working on the biochemical basis of human and environment interactions.

Tina Jeoh Zicari – Professor, Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Her research interests include bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass to fuels and chemical and the microencapsulation of bioactives. She also serves as co-director of the NSF-funded STEM for Girls project.

Kit S. Lam – Professor and Chair, Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, and Professor, Division of Hematology/Oncology in the School of Medicine. Dr. Lam is a practicing medical oncologist and a laboratory researcher. His laboratory is engaged in the development and application of combinatorial library methods for basic research and drug discovery.

Kent Leach – Professor, Biomedical Engineering and Orthopaedic Surgery, and Genome Center faculty member. His research interests focus on cell-instructive biomaterials, understanding the local biophysical microenvironment, drug and gene delivery, and the application of in vivo imaging tools to monitor tissue formation.

Richard Michelmore – Distinguished Professor, Plant Sciences, Founding Director, UC Davis Genome Center and the Novozymes Chair in Genomics. His research is focused on the comparative and functional genomics of disease resistance in plants, particularly Arabidopsis, tomato, and lettuce.

David Mills – Professor and the Peter J. Shields Endowed Chair in Food Science & Technology. His research interests include the interaction between foods, microbes and the intestine and the microbial ecology of food production.

Philipp Zerbe – Associate Professor, Plant Biology. The Zerbe Lab focuses on understanding plant terpenoid metabolism for applications in agriculture and bioproducts. Prof. Zerbe also serves on the steering committee of the UC Davis - Osaka University - Kirin Company collaboration, Plant Biotechnology for Global Health and Wellness.
