Biotech Community Support is Essential
To develop educational programs for the next generation of biotechnology leaders, we rely on close interactions with STEM professionals in academia, industry, non-profits and government.
Partner support takes many forms, including:
- Hosting on-site, paid internships for Biotechnology Program Ph.D. students
- Sharing research discoveries and biotech career tips at public seminars during the academic year
- Donating funds to support student training and professional development activities
- Providing in-kind donations of reagents, laboratory equipment and other supplies in support of K-14 BioTech SYSTEM outreach
- Co-sponsoring workshops, short courses, contests and events
To date, partner support has enabled:
- Engagement in over 800 public seminars for the campus community
- Professional development of over 300 Ph.D. students
- Informal science education for thousands of K-14 teachers, parents and students through hands-on experiments, science contests and seminars
- Formal science education in bioinformatics and genomics for secondary and post-secondary teachers via summer workshops
